A few things done

June 1, 2017

but not enough it seems to me….

June?!?!   Yeesh.

The 2 quilts are still at the machine quilters.  Wait – I know I showed the American Jane last post, did I ever show the pink/red/green “rose” quilt top?  Maybe not, I can’t even find any photos of it, odd, I could swear I took some.  They probably will not be done until end of the month.  Or did I tell the one quilter end of July would be fine?  Oh well, they are not gifts, and there is no need for them until winter anyway.  This time of year, the machine quilters around here are kept quite busy with graduation present quilts.

QOV #3 came back from quilting & I did the binding and turned it in for laundering and presentation.  QOV top #4 got turned in a few weeks ago for quilting, I don’t know if I’ll get it back to do the binding or if someone else will be doing it.  Here is QOV top #5, (more…)

Days Off Progress

September 9, 2016

I’ve been off work this week, using vacation days that must be used or lost by the end of the month.  As usual, I haven’t gotten nearly as much done as I planned.  One day had an unplanned excursion to Mt. Pleasant antique thresher & tractor show.  Now I can say I’ve been there.  The old machines were very cool (or rather very hot with all the wood smoke and steam), but LOTS of walking and noise.  At least it wasn’t too difficult to find a bench to sit on for a few minutes when my legs needed a break and it wasn’t 90+ degrees like it so often is.  Another day was lost to financial ponderings, I’m not too happy on this and will definitely let the money guy know!  The mystery Union Special machine has remained untouched, I’m beginning to think this one will be a candidate for a new home. Giving the blog another shot

January 4, 2016

Wow, can it really be 5 years since posting?!

Anyway, I’m going to try posting here again, mostly about sewing.  Maybe some organizing, needlework, knitting, crochet.

What’s been happening in the last 5 years?  For 4 years, not a lot of sewing, unless you count mending jeans.  Which I don’t.  However in the last year, I’ve sewn – (more…)

Cutting Table Modification, and Happy New Year!

December 31, 2011

Here’s how I resolved the question of adding storage to my drop leaf cutting table.

I kept my tracing paper, interfacing and odd fabrics like the vinyl and insul-brite rolled standing in end in boxes in the closet.  I kept eyeing the cutting table, and thinking “that’s a lot of wasted space”.  I had moved a stack of plastic drawers to the closet when I put the “new” sewing machine at the window, and wanted to minimize the amount of stuff to move when accessing the drawers. New Sewing Room Photos

January 9, 2011

OK, I dropped the “15 minutes in the sewing room” thing big time this week.  I think it lasted all of 2 days.

Here’s the photos of my sewing room after I did a bit of clean-out and reorganizing. (more…)

A Bit of Cleanup

January 10, 2010

No sewing since I finished the cardigan and traced the jacket pattern.  But I did do a bit of cleanup.  After watching a show on hoarding on TLC, I realized I’ve been hoarding boxes.  I’ve been saving small boxes because “they are good for using as drawer dividers”.  I looked through the drawers in my sewing desk, and the computer desk, and …..  I don’t really have anything needing dividing.  I’ve also been saving paper towel and toilet paper rolls because “they’ll be good for putting bits of trim and all the yarn I’m going to spin on”.  Ummmm, yeah, right.  The rolls will take up way more room that just using flat cardboard for trim, and I don’t spin enough to need that many.  So, I saved just a couple of heavier paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls, and a couple of really nice boxes.  That’s opened up a couple of  drawers in the plastic drawer units under the bookshelf and almost emptied an area under the table in the sewing room.  (more…)

New Photo of Sewing Room and a recent project

Curtains by the kitchen table, there is a matching valence above the window over the sink. These are lined with a light green gingham, the other valance is lined with yellow gingham. They were not hard to sew, just have to take time and double check the measurements.

The mirrors are cheap ones, and are just tied on. I didn't want to start poking holes in the doors since I wasn't sure it would work. It does, but they are on the small side, so I may check out how much mirrored closet doors cost. These will do for now though.

Sewing Room

September 19, 2009

Here are photos of my sewing/craft room from several months ago.  I’m slowly doing a cleanup.   The books in this room are for sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, and needlework.    I really need to weed those out, along with the fabric that I don’t love any longer.   I weeded out the patterns a while back, and there’s only  1 pattern that I regret getting rid of.   Unfortunately, I’ve aquired way more than I had gotten rid of since then.
