In the last 2 months…

March 19, 2017

I’m not doing so great at the blogging again!   I had no idea it’s been 2 months again already.  I can see why so many formerly frequently posting bloggers are moving to Instagram.  A quick snap, a few lines, and hit a button.  I’m working on not over-thinking my writing, as that’s what takes so long for me to get something written.  The sewing one day every weekend is working well.  The house is suffering, but I’m getting sewing done.  Except this weekend, yesterday I HAD to buckle down and get my part of the tax stuff done, which I did, and turned the envelope over to DH to do his part.

OK, let’s see, where did I leave off at the last posting? (more…)

Days Off Progress

September 9, 2016

I’ve been off work this week, using vacation days that must be used or lost by the end of the month.  As usual, I haven’t gotten nearly as much done as I planned.  One day had an unplanned excursion to Mt. Pleasant antique thresher & tractor show.  Now I can say I’ve been there.  The old machines were very cool (or rather very hot with all the wood smoke and steam), but LOTS of walking and noise.  At least it wasn’t too difficult to find a bench to sit on for a few minutes when my legs needed a break and it wasn’t 90+ degrees like it so often is.  Another day was lost to financial ponderings, I’m not too happy on this and will definitely let the money guy know!  The mystery Union Special machine has remained untouched, I’m beginning to think this one will be a candidate for a new home. Possibly Finished Project – Seat Covers

January 30, 2016

Well.  The posting sort of fell off already, didn’t it.  Until today, I really didn’t have anything to show, so that would have been really boring for anyone stopping by.  I did get a bit more quilting done, but nothing photo worthy.  No more progress was made on cleaning up the sewing room.   No scratch that – I did buy a clothes rail and garment bags and moved some things out of the sewing room closet to that in the basement.  Along with all the table cloths fin the hall closet from Mom.  Two weeks ago, I was battling a cold, not the worst I’ve ever had, but that Sunday, I had no energy and slept most of the day.  Anyway, on to the big sewing news for this week… (more…)

Giving the blog another shot

January 4, 2016

Wow, can it really be 5 years since posting?!

Anyway, I’m going to try posting here again, mostly about sewing.  Maybe some organizing, needlework, knitting, crochet.

What’s been happening in the last 5 years?  For 4 years, not a lot of sewing, unless you count mending jeans.  Which I don’t.  However in the last year, I’ve sewn – (more…)

Finished!!

January 3, 2010

McCall’s 5978 is done!  Finished!  Wearable!  WooHoo!   This is the first item of clothing I’ve sewn from scratch in 2 years.  I went back and re-did the hem on both front corners, it looks much better now.  I ended up using just simple gray buttons, the fabric is so busy that I didn’t think fancy ones would stand out.   The buttonholes were a Pain in the ….. to put in.  I did samples on some scraps, selecting the correct size.  Hmmmmm.  instead of 20 mm, they came out 25 mm. – way to big!  Tried another sample with it set to 16 mm, and it ended up being 19 mm, just right.  I sewed the first buttonhole.  The first side went (more…)

Finally, Actual Sewing Has Occurred.

December 13, 2009

I’ve actually been sewing!  I love this fabric, so it took a while to decide.  The fabric was from Hancock Fabrics, the last on the bolt, and has been ageing for several years. I was thinking a V-neck pullover or top of some type, then finally decided on a cardigan.  I’d like to move away from my “uniform” of a shirt of some type and a pullover sweatshirt.  I think this will begin to fill in the gap nicely.  I am using McCall’s 5978, so far it’s gone together well, even after all the alterations I had to make.  I had to add a few inches around, and a couple inches to the sleeve length, and do a FBA. Does Mending Count?

November 8, 2009

I did get a tiny bit of sewing done – I mended a hole in a pair of jeans.

I do have some sewing to show, not mine and not recent.  It’s the doll clothes Mom made when I was little.  I got all the Barbie items a few weeks ago, and sorted out items I know was my sister’s and mine, and put all my niece’s items aside to return to her.  I didn’t get a Barbie until I was older, I think I got mine the first year she had bendable legs.  I recall having a Tammy (?) doll and one other, that I can’t remember the name of.  She was based on a TV show in the mid-late 1960s, had an ocelot for a pet, and was a detective or spy as I recall.  What was her name?
